The track, cables, and guide rails are the mechanical backbone of your sunroof. When they wear or fail, you might notice the glass moving unevenly, grinding during operation, or refusing to open or close at all. A broken track can jam the mechanism, while a frayed cable can stop the panel mid-cycle.

We inspect the track assembly for wear, debris, and misalignment, check the cables and guide rails for damage, and assess the frame for bends or corrosion that could affect operation. From there, the right fix depends on what we actually find — a track that's simply dirty or misaligned can often be cleaned and realigned, while worn cables or guide rails may need component-level replacement. If the track is bent or cracked beyond what a realignment can fix, we'll recommend a full replacement. Panoramic sunroof systems are popular on SUVs and sedans, and they add real complexity: multiple glass panels, extended track sections, additional drain channels, and more moving components spread across a wider span. That means more potential failure points — and a problem on one side of the system can affect operation across the entire roof.

We diagnose panoramic sunroof problems by inspecting the full system rather than just the panel where the symptom appears. Common issues include panel misalignment, drain clogs across the wider channel network, seal gaps along extended glass edges, and mechanical wear in longer track assemblies. Sunroof glass can be damaged by road debris, hail, temperature changes, or impact. Once it's cracked or chipped, the damage can spread — and a compromised panel may not hold up under wind pressure or weather exposure. When a sunroof won't move, the motor is an obvious suspect — but it's not always the culprit. A roof that won't budge could have a seized track preventing the motor from moving the glass, a blown fuse cutting power, a faulty switch, or a loose or corroded connection in the wiring. We test the motor, check the wiring and switch, and inspect the track for mechanical binding before recommending any parts replacement.

Some sunroof systems also require initialization or calibration after a motor or switch is replaced — the system needs to learn the fully closed and fully open positions to operate correctly. We make sure that step is completed so the sunroof doesn't stop short or fail to seal after a repair. If the motor has failed internally, we replace it with a quality unit and test the full cycle.
